Looking for a job is EXHAUSTING! Why work with a local/industry specific recruiter? 1)      Feedback on companies in the area. Often, we have placed or met with candidates coming from companies in our specific area (For me, the Seacoast NH is my bread and butter… very knowledgeable of Southern ME and Northern MA as well. South of Boston my colleagues are a better resource). ·      I always provide the good and bad feedback on what I’ve heard on clients.. It is never helpful for anyone (candidate or client) if we misrepresent a company/position.. it leads to a fall off in 1-2 months which trust me, is the last thing we want as recruiters 😊 2)      Resume guidance!! I will always edit and reformat resumes for any candidates I’m actively working with (given their permission). Most recruiters are very strong in this area- PLEASE stop paying $500 for someone to edit your resume… if they are writing the whole thing for you, then sure, but if you even have a rough draft together then we can spruce that up for you. 3)      Career guidance. Anyone that has a career in recruiting will NOT try to sell you into a position for a quick fee. Our goal is to give you solid guidance so that A) you end up as a hiring manager and want to work with us on filling roles with your team B) we get referrals C) we can work with you next time you make a career change and your background is even more marketable. If we help YOU, it helps us. 4)      Getting your resume straight to hiring managers. 9/10 times we aren’t entering your info into a portal, we are sending directly to the HR Manager or usually the hiring manager. Your resume will get seen and wont fall into the 100 applicants the company has to sift through. 5)      Sending you roles that are specific to you! We wont always have the perfect job for you, but if a candidates skill set is in line with what we do (Sr. Acct, FA, Controller, AP, AR, Staff Acct, etc.) more times than not we will have 2-4 roles to send over to you. We are not going to spam you with roles that aren’t relevant to you. 6)      Interview prep! We will give as much info as possible so you feel confident going into your interview. There are plenty more, but these are the big ones!

Resurfacing an article I wrote a while ago, which deals with informational interviews aka "the coffee chat". Here is what I am going to tell you. Targeting RECRUITERS in a market like this - unless you are honestly looking for insights on *becoming a recruiter* is a losing proposition. Most employed recruiters don't have time to take away from their highly scheduled days to have casual conversations. And if the reason for the conversation is to answer specific questions about the process, job, or something like a particular benefit (ie "this role is in Seattle, does your employer offer relocation?" or "do you have fertility benefits?", or "does your employer sponsor visas"?) are all questions that very often are *on the careers website* OR can be answered in a quick inmail. Most recruiters are happy to answer a quick question. True informational interviews are NOT about "getting a job", they are about LEARNING. Yes, they are part of networking, but they are NOT meant to practice your elevator pitch, and you are better of talking to someone IN the role who can give you valuable insights.

The past 2 weeks have been all about cookies, wine, and late night Breaking Bad binges. But even with all the fun, I still love to make time to reflect and map out what I want for the year ahead. As I’ve been envisioning the new year, here are some questions I’ve been asking myself: ❔Who would I be without my fear? ❔What must I let go of to become the person I want to be? ❔Why do I believe what I believe? ❔What motivates me to perform my best, and how can I tap into this more consistently? ❔How do I define success? ❔What is one thing I can do today to move closer to my career goals? Some of these might feel overwhelming, but trust me, when you sit with this and really reflect, you might uncover some surprising truths about yourself and what’s possible.

Recruiters shouldn’t be scary. We have one of the most fun and rewarding jobs in the entire world. We have the opportunity to speak to someone about a new opportunity that could potentially be life changing and that’s a really cool thing. Of course we need to ask questions to vet candidates but there’s no reason to do it in an intimidating way. I get so many comments about how my interviews are so conversational but in my opinion thats how they should be, because someone stressed isn’t going to be able to present their best selves. There’s always going to be a certain level of formality to an interview, but the process is so much more enjoyable when hiring teams come from a place of curiosity as opposed to criticality. #hiring #careers #JobHuntLikeARecruiter
